The Forest and Rural Fire Research programme in Christchurch has employed GIS specialist, Caroline Coquerel, to develop mapping applications for fire management information. She is currently producing a fuel type map for New Zealand based on the latest Land Cover Database. This information will then be linked to fire-behaviour models to produce maps of expected fire behaviour under given scenarios.
